And so it begins..

So the US has announced that a military exercise will take place with the Republic of Korea in the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. Of course it's no great surprise that the west would like a show of force with the North's saber rattling.
This exercise will consume around 8000 troops, 20 ships and 200 combat aircraft. Reports have also stated that the F-22 Raptor will take part for the first time

Don't get me wrong I'm all up for military readiness but these exercises are taking place "for the next few months" according to U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
Who knows how many ships, aircraft and personnel will finally get involved and will they all go home after the event? I highly doubt it and doesn't this give the north a tempting target for yet another 'mistake'?

My guess would be that this is a thinly disguised build up in response to North Korea's threat of invasion which it recently announced. Food for thought.
